Job Description

Manage the Sprint activities of 1-2 Scrum teams, facilitate agile events, and collaborate with the product owner on planning, prioritization, and goals for the Scrum team.  Responsible for monitoring the Scrum processes and Scrum meetings to increase their teams’ efficiency, motivate their team, challenge team for changes that will ensure quality and timeliness.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Serve the team and product owner in turning requirements into the working software
  • Track progress and help the team achieve their commitments
  • Progress is monitored daily when problems are identified, work with team to develop corrective actions
  • Manage and report the status of scope, schedule, etc.
  • Extract and document requirements, author user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Ensure team members understand processes and support the team to ensure they are followed
  • Ensure product quality expectations are defined and known across the team
  • Collaborate with the team in scheduling work, including defect remediation and refactoring, guarding against the accumulation of technical debt
  • Work with technical team and product owner balancing the interests of both when issues arise
  • Remove impediments allowing the team to focus on engineering tasks
  • Take the lead on resolving conflicts within the team removing any roadblocks to collaboration
  • Guide project team meetings including sprint pre/planning meetings, daily scrum and sprint review meetings
  • Facilitate retrospective discussions and support continuous improvement efforts
  • Limit the external interference the team must deal with
  • Creative problem solving in quickly bringing issues to resolution
  • Fosters an environment that emphasizes knowledge sharing and group participation
  • Lead in the absence of organizational authority and demonstrate empathy and stewardship
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master
  • Agile / Scrum Industry Certification(s).
  • Understands the basic fundamentals of iterative and incremental development.
  • Experience with change management process and knowledge of effective facilitation tools and ability to adjust based on the team’s needs.
  • Basic knowledge of software development processes and procedures to understand the team needs.
  • Knowledge about Agile techniques like: User Stories, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing.
  • Strong knowledge of Scrum theory, rules and practices
  • The ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Attention to details
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare product development
  • Knowledge of KANBAN or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology and framework

The Scrum Master will be based in our headquarters in downtown Madison, WI, on the Capitol Square. Madison is a vibrant, progressive community with great neighborhoods, top-ranked schools, tons of activities, and an internationally-renowned university.  Remote option will be considered.
